Land Rover Experience

What a fun weekend. You might have most probably followed some of my Instagram posts this past weekend and what I was up to.

Me and a bunch of other online people, also called “Bloggers”, were kindly invited by Land Rover Germany and Weber Grills to the Land Rover Experience Center in Wülfrath, Germany to test out the whole armada of automobiles while enjoying some fantastically grilled meats. Sounds awesome? It was awesome! I am driving Land Rovers for a very long time now, though I had some other cars in between. I am a huge fan and on my fourth Land Rover at the moment. I had two Discos before this one and a Defender in between. I basically loved all of them and never had a problem with any of them, well the Defender is just not made for tall and bigger people like me without heavy modifying so I am more a fan of its looks than the whole package :-). Land Rover has been passed around over the years quite a bit, but funny enough didn’t have any mishaps, car wise, that I can think off. Every update to their line of cars was always easy on the eyes, brought new and innovative updates with it and improved a lot over the one before it. Yeah I am a fanboy! Also withstanding the flood of SUVs that kept coming and coming, they stayed true to their philosophy and brand by building fully off road capable cars that are not only made for the city jungles…

After arriving at the Hotel we got shuttled to the Experience Center where an armada  of Weber Grills and lots of Porterhouse Steaks and Filets were waiting. Shazaaam! Funny enough I enjoy grilling and BBQing a lot and I love good meat but never went for a high quality grill so far. And we didn’t use to have smokers for home use here in Germany until very recently, but the latest after this Event I am thinking about one of Webers smokers. We’ll see which one it will be. the good food of friday evening was basically follow by a saturday of pure off roaring and freshly grilled burgers.

As I mentioned before we had the whole Land Rover and Range Rover Lineup to play around with all day, including the brand spanking new 2013 Rang Rover. Let me start talking about this magnificent vehicle a bit. For me this might be the car of the year. It runs out of competition in its class for sure. Haven’t seen, driven or sat in such a fantastic offroader so far. This really is a big step up from the previous Range Rover. Don’t get me wrong, the previous Range Rover was/is a great car, but compared to the Series 4 Discovery the gap wasn’t all that big anymore. When getting in the all new Range Rover you will understand what I mean by it. It feels so much higher in quality, more like a Bentley or Rolls than a XJ or previous model Range (sorry ’bout that), like a high class private jet with more space. And then you start that puppy up and get rolling and finally there you fall in love. not even giving you time to tackle 110° hills, driving through water or over rocks and gravel. Yeah, I am getting carried away a little, but it was a very nice experience. And I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

We also drove the Disco 4 which basically is the new version of my car and that also was such a nice drive. And also a great upgrade from my generation of the car. On- and off-road that is, plus the interior feels much nice than in the series 3, well… I really would love to upgrade at some point, that is for sure.

The Defender is a Legend, but also a little bit of a dinosaur. It is selling like crazy, has lot and lots of fans and I get it. I had one, and the looks are amazing, it drives ok on the road, very well off-road, which I hadn’t tried before and was very positively surprised, but it is by far the least comfortable Land Rover in the whole lineup.

Next to the new Range Rover the Evoque, also a Range Rover actually, was the other big surprise for me. The looks are just fantastic and I loved it from the first concept to the final car, I never had the chance to sit in one properly or even drive it. After driving it around town a little on friday night for a little photoshoot and and then on saturday I am a fan. The design is so unique and beautiful, having an elegant and very powerful stance and presence at the same time. I wasn’t very impressed by the engine, being a more performance oriented car guy. I think for a day to day regular driving to work, shopping and so on you will not get into many situations where it might annoy you, but as soon as you hit the autobahn for a longer drive, I am sure I would get somewhat annoyed by that.

We obviously weren’t driving all alone on the course of the Land Rover Experience Center, but had a bunch of fantastic instructors sitting next to us, guiding us and teaching the basics of offroading. Always amazing how capable off road cars can be and I found it very impressive that the entire Land Rover / Range Rover line up is capable getting around the Center. Obviously a Range Rover or Discovery are more capable than a Evoque or Freelander in the grand scheme, but still much more impressive than many of their competition. Somehow I still have that Top Gear footage in mind where the BMW X6 is trying to get up that grassy, wet hill. Hillarious.

Hope you enjoyed the photos and as a little bonus a video Fabian Meßner of Veight.de shot while we were going down that 110° hill (called “End of the Road” :-)) in the 2013 Range Rover. I am giggling quite a bit, in german, but still fun.

Have a great week party people,

Teymur.

Wie immer super Bilder, ich mag am neuen Range ja das Detail am Scheinwerfer… Beschriftung wie an alten Objektiven.

Unglaublich das ich eigentlich Wülfrather bin und noch nie im Experience Park war. Also in diesem Sinne: Liebe Land Rover Leute, ich will! Ladet mich doch auch mal ein ;). Ich bring auch den Teymur nochmal zum Fotografieren mit.(Wenn er denn will)
