For me building a relationship to a car is based on one thing and one thing only… Passion!
In one way or the other the car has to give me that tingly feeling when I start to drive it. when I look at it too, but it has nothing to do with perfection, horsepower or torque… not with the high end materials inside or out. I know its easy to be impressed by all this, but even then its not guarantee for me to be impressed by a car and like or even love it. and for the past few years we did not have a lot of cars on the german market especially that would trigger anything like that in me. for ages there have been the EVOs and STIs, the Vettes, then there was the GTR and so on, yet there are so many more possibilities out there and besides performance the looks of the cars went into a very similar and often boring direction. What I wrote about the CLS Shooting Brake applies on many levels to these wonderful cars my buddy Jan Gleitsmann and I got to shoot too.
The Citroen DS3 Racing and the Sebastian Loeb edition. A very aggressive stance and sporty design combined with fun performance package. We had a lot of fun driving these hatchbacks around and even more fun shooting them. One of the highlights for me certainly was the way you have to drive the car a bit more aggressive to unleash its full potential. A little bit like the Honda S2000s. Rev it up a bit higher and you unleash the beast. Thanks again to Citroen Germany for kindly providing us with this opportunity.
A lot of the night shots where shot hand held with quite an high ISO, I deliberately didn’t use Lightrooms noise reduction as I think the noise is absolutely fine. It adds a little bi of griddyness to the shots.
Hope you enjoy the photos and make sure to head over to Jans site Auto… geil! also and check out his photos. And another buddy of mine, Jens Stratmann, just published his experiences with the car on his Blog Rad-ab (in german though).
obviously we only use the best lighting gear
and we are as authentic as it gets!
