A car company with a long tradition and heritage in car manufacturing and racing.
As many smaller car manufacturers they had their problems over time, but seem to have found a good new partner and home with India’s Tata car company. Same as Land Rover by the way. Jaguar and Land Rover are a team now, which is actually really good news in my opinion. not only because I have been driving Land Rovers for some time now, but also because Jaguars were the car of choice for my dad for quite some time and I really like both brands.
So when I got a slot in the first ever Blogger event by Jaguar/Land Rover Germany last weekend I was very stoked. Spending two days with some very beautiful cars and drive them around the area of the famous Nürburgring. This event was planned along the well known Oldtimer GP (where Oldtimer is used in German for classic cars and not older Gentlemen.). A classic car event where some of the most amazing cars come to race around the two Nürburgring racetracks. There are also a lot of things on the side to enjoy and experience and if you recall, I covered it last year. This time we were given press passes by Jaguar, to head over to the Paddock and enjoy that event too, but this time I was way too engaged in driving and shooting the cars, that I passed on that opportunity. Next year then.
Jaguar had put together a very nice event and I enjoyed every bit of it. It needs to be pointed out that it is an important step for Blogger and Jaguar alike to begin a relationship like that. So thank you for that too!
On arrival day and after checking into the Hotel some of us met in the Hotel Lobby and we were then shuttled to the Jaguar Testcenter at the Nürburgring. When I say shuttled I mean driven in a brand new Jaguar XJ and a brand new Range Rover. Well and it just got better from there.
Some cool refreshments and “Hello”s were exchanged and we were given an introduction into the Jaguar brand and history. Followed by an overview of the newest lineup of cars and especially the ones we were going to be able to drive. Also a nice tidbit of information that we will be seeing a production ready version of the new Jaguar F-Type at the Paris Auto-salon in September. Can’t wait for that Kitty to come out of hiding!
We were provided with a very nice variety of cars:
XF 2,2 Diesel
XF 3.0 V6 Diesel S
XK 5.0 V8 Cabriolet
XKR 5,0 V8 Kompressor Cabriolet
XJ 3.0 V6 Diesel S
Obviously we wouldn’t have kicked and screamed in dismay if they would have thrown a XK-RS in the mix too, but I can completely understand that they didn’t. It’s just the petrol head in me.
What beautiful and emotional cars. From the extremely elegant and sexy XJ to the smaller and more agile and feisty XF to the growling, tarmac eating XKs. A wonderful driving experience in every single one of them.
Also one thing that in a modern car is very important to me… iPhone (or any phone) integration. And I am not talking about handsfree talking, but rather being able to listen to my Spotify account or audible audiobooks without any hassle for example. And that worked perfectly well in the Jags that were equipped with bluetooth. Paired it once, started listening right away and every time I got out too shoot it stopped and took resumed right were it stopped before, without me doing anything after I started the car. wonderful!
Anyway. Obviously I shot all the cars, including the XK-RS, as they were nice enough to position it for me to my liking in their garage. And as before I teamed up with my buddy Jan Gleitsmann of auto-geil.de for a sunrise car shoot. We organised the cars the evening before, got up at around four 4:30 in the morning, met at 5 and hit the road, first in search for coffee and a little something for between the teeth and then went looking for a location. Its hard to get up that early, especially as you normally are up late looking through what you shot the day before or wrestling with the hotel WiFi, but its worth it every time.
make sure to check out Jans blogpost and photos too.
Besides Jan my thanks go to Bjoern Habegger and Sebastian Bauer in particular for a fun time after the Event. After over six years I got to drive on the Nürburgring Nordschleife again and man what a joy it is… its certainly not better than sex, but its kinda close if you know what I mean.
Also great seeing everyone else again and meeting some new Bloggers. Always a great pleasure.
I also have a longer, bit more detailed post in german though over at Techfieber, hop over and check it out!
Now, finally… the photos. Enjoy!
